Cally Palace is "friendliest hotel in Scotland"
The Cally Palace is the friendliest hotel in Scotland and Robert McWhir of the Fernhilll is the industry’s top up-and-coming manager.
The 56-bedroom Gatehouse of Fleet Hotel won the category for 'Hospitality and Especially Friendly Service' in the Scottish Hotel of the Year Awards.
General Manager Douglas McDavid received the award at a ceremony attended by more than 500 people in Glasgow.
"We go to great lengths to meet and exceed customer expectations, so friendly service is a key everyday part of our jobs," McDavid commented.
"The hotel industry is very competitive and to be the best in the business you have to keep going the extra mile. This award is a tremendous tribute to the dedication, hard work and skills of the Cally Palace's team, especially since it's based to a large extent on feedback from our own guests."
The Cally has been in the ownership of the McMillan family since 1981.
"This is a great honour for the Cally and recognises its longstanding reputation for first class customer service," McMillan Hotels' Director Douglas McMillan commented.
"Last year we introduced a campaign called 'Yes we can!' throughout all our hotels to further improve the service we provide to guests. This is an excellent example of how well this campaign is working."
Robert McWhir of the Fernhill at Portpatrick was named Rising Star Hotel Manager of the Year. He travelled around the world on the luxury cruise liner for two and a half years until July 2004 when he was appointed assistant manager of the Cally Palace before moving to the Fernhill last year.
Peebles Hotel Hydro was awarded a Bedroom Design Gold Medal for its Cademuir Suite, one of two new luxury suites opened last year. The Cademuir has its own private spa treatment room.
These awards follow a series of recent accolades for McMillan Hotels’ Glenapp Castle at Ballantrae in South Ayrshire including its award in January of a Michelin star for its food.
