It’s a family affair as Hydro is named top kids’ hotel
One of Scotland’s oldest and grandest hotels has been voted the country’s top venue for the younger generation.
Peebles Hydro (www.peebleshotelhydro.co.uk), which dates back to 1881, won the title of Scotland’s Best Family Hotel in the hotelreviewscotland.com Awards, based on the votes of tens of thousands of visitors to the specialist industry Website.

The 128-bedroom Hydro, owned and operated by family firm McMillan Hotels, is a favourite destination for short breaks and has long enjoyed a reputation for being child-friendly.
The Hydro’s facilities include a 20-metre indoor swimming pool with separate toddlers’ pool, a children’s activity centre in its 30 acres of wooded grounds, indoor play areas, putting green, pitch and putt course and tennis courts. Riding stables are located nearby.
During school holidays it organises extensive supervised programmes of activities for children who also have their own colourful dining room. In the evenings, hostesses look after kids while their parents enjoy dinner in the hotel’s chandeliered dining room which looks out over the rolling Peeblesshire hills. It has 24 family rooms with accommodation for adults linked to children’s rooms, some with bunk beds.
Awards judges praised the Hydro’s "unique and happy atmosphere, beautiful location and fine staff - many of whom have given very lengthy service to the famous hotel."
McMillan Hotels Director Douglas McMillan said the AA four star hotel’s accolade "is valued recognition of our policy of treating children as honoured guests. As a family firm ourselves. we know the importance of families and are proud to provide facilities for people of all ages."
Mr McMillan went on:
"Youngsters are just as important to us as their mums, dads, guardians and grandparents. Hydro staff go out of their way to make each child feel special and we are delighted that this has been recognised again by guests, the general public and our peers in the hotel and hospitality industry."
