Back to Nature at Cally Palace
According to a recent Scottish Executive report, deer and red squirrels are Scotland’s best-loved animals. Visitors to Cally Palace hotel can see them both in their natural habitats.
One of the hotel’s kind neighbours with an interest in squirrels has set up a feeding station and some days four or five can be seen feeding together.
Roe deer can be seen occasionally crossing the hotel’s private 18 hole golf course and a huge plus for diners in the dining room is to see the deer out on the back lawn near the 18tth green.
Like many of the Cally residents who return time and time again, a family of Oyster Catchers have come back for the 10th year in a row to prepare for the arrival of their new family. Guests enjoy watching their antics from an excellent viewing spot.
On the Cally’s lake a family of majestic swans prepare their nest for the arrival of this year’s eggs.
The one animal who keeps a very low profile but has been spotted playing in the lake is the otter. While playing the famous par 5 13th hole which runs alongside the lake, General Manager Douglas McDavid watched as Mr Otter played happily close to the fairway. Douglas commented:
"I look for him every time I pass that spot, hoping to see him again."
No "birdie" on that occasion. Perhaps an “Eagle” the next?
