Following the highly successful Jazz Festival last year, the 2019 Jazz Weekend will be from Friday 18th – Sunday 20th October 2019, when some of the UK’s highly talented musicians will provide varied styles of music in spacious and comfortable surroundings.

In an effort to expand the Jazz Festival, there will be a 7 piece plus two 6 piece bands hence the slight increase in ticket price.

This year’s line-up includes some previous favourites plus some new exciting groups and these include:

John Hallam (appeared last year) – most versatile, top UK and World Class reedsman, guesting with the Three Bears plus duo with Tom Kincaid

 ‘Spats’ Langham (appeared last year) – all–round star entertainer with huge repertoire – solo and ensemble – guitar, banjo, ukulele and vocals

 Tom Kincaid (appeared last year) – outstanding pianist – King of the Keys! – leads the Three Bears plus the duo with John Hallam

 Sportinghouse Strings – excellent Vaudeville Trio – descended from the great Tommy Burton’s Sportinghouse Strings.  ‘Spats’ Langham leads the group with the highly acclaimed Martin Litton on piano who delivers exceptional sounds especially with his Ragtime and Boogie Woogie.  Richard Vernon is the foundation for the group providing the rhythmic bass line. Superb listening here!

Jerry Forde’s New Phoenix Jazz Band – a splendid 7 piece band providing N O, Chicago, Early Jazz and Blues and music up to the 50s with a Classic approach. The band includes superb young vocalist Christine Adams, 2 top class reedsmen – Dick Lee and Martin Foster – very smooth trumpet playing by Lorne Cowieson, first rate drummer Jack Wilson – all under the fine leadership of bassist Jerry Forde. Dancing encouraged here!

The Three Bears (appeared last year) – led by maestro Tom Kincaid on piano who is joined by the vibrant bass of Jim Swinnerton and impressive drumming by Jack Cotterill.  A polished rhythm section and the BEST on the UK Jazz scene!

Havana Swing – Top Class Gypsy Jazz Quartet, based in Dundee, led by Walter Smith on superb clarinet, Kevin Murray – guitar, David Rattray – guitar plus Ray Elrick on double bass. This group presents jaunty, atmospheric, feelgood music for your enjoyment.

Mike Daly Trio (appeared last year) – led by Mike Daly top Scottish cornettist who is joined by John Fenner a very fine guitarist plus Tom Evans excellent bassist, performing American Songbook numbers plus standards in their own inimitable style.

The Joys of Swing – this superb Edinburgh based Band play standards from the Swing Era, Ballads, Boogie and Blues – all exciting material bound to cheer you up and get you dancing!  The band features Mike Daly – cornet, David Watt – piano, George Howden – trombone and vocals, Ian Boyter (leader) – tenor saxophone, Bill Mullen – drums and Tom Evans – bass.  The band have played at Edinburgh Jazz and Jive Club, Edinburgh Swing Dance Society and also appear at the JazzBar in Edinburgh. 

Trevor Foster’s N O All Stars – (Trevor’s Trio appeared last year) Trevor, a splendid clarinettist, leads and presents his Irish N O Band – the last in Ireland but still providing Top Class music, for listening and dancing, so be prepared for a fun gig!

Strumsum Blues Band (appeared last year) – an enthusiastic group led by Fraser Milligan supported by Lindsay Henderson, Fraser Clark, Jack Anderson and Mike Clark.  The joint winners of the Big Burns Supper Festival Music Award are a dynamic, foot tapping group with deep rhythmic vibes - enjoy!
