Wigtown Book Festival
27th September - 6th October
Wigtown is a traditional market town, set in the beautiful Dumfries & Galloway countryside in south-west Scotland. Wigtown is also Scotland's National Book Town, a designation that reflects its dozen or so secondhand bookshops and annual literary festival.
The next Wigtown Book Festival takes place from 27th September until 6th October 2019. A full programme for this years festival will be available shortly.
This year the Book Festival has over 150 events planned at a range of venues, including some of the nation's most interesting writers, as well as theatre, film and music. All ages are welcome. As well as events for adults, there are two dedicated programmes for children and for young people aged 13+.
This year's speakers include Ruth Davidson, Doddie Weir, Alan Johnson, Carol Drinkwater, Gavin Esler, Kamal Ahmed, Vivian French and Hannah Witton.
Previous speakers who have attended previous festivals include Joanna Lumley, Jeremy Bowen, Melissa Benn, Martin Bell, Louis de Bernieres, Alasdair Gray, Phyllida Law, Sally Magnusson and Fay Weldon.
Wigtown Book Festival, which is run by a small professional staff and assisted by over 100 volunteers each year has won many awards over the years and in 2007, Wigtown Book Festival became a charity.
